Important Update: Oakwood Branch Surgery Closure

Posted by: sineadlove - Posted on:

We wish to inform our patients that, following a comprehensive public engagement process and a thorough review of all possible options, the Partners and staff at Park Medical Practice have made the difficult decision to close our Oakwood branch. The final day of service at Oakwood will be Tuesday, 31 March 2026.

Why is Oakwood Surgery Closing?

This decision has not been taken lightly. We have carefully considered feedback from our patients and the local community (please visit our website to read the engagement report), and have explored every avenue to keep Oakwood open. Unfortunately, the following reasons mean that closure is now unavoidable:

  • The Oakwood building, now over 40 years old, is no longer suitable for modern medical practice or current primary care requirements.
  • Bringing the site up to standard would require significant and prohibitive investment due to issues including poor accessibility, lack of ventilation, outdated facilities, and ongoing anti-social behaviour affecting staff and patients.
  • There are very limited opportunities to improve access at the current location.

What Does This Mean for Patients?

  • You do not need to re-register. All Oakwood patients will remain registered with Park Medical Practice automatically.
  • Home visits will continue for housebound patients as before.
  • Appointments: You can continue to book appointments in the usual way, using the same contact numbers. Appointments will be available at:
  • Park Medical Practice, Chaddesden – Maine Drive, Chaddesden, DE21 6LA
  • Park Medical Practice, Borrowash – 46 Derby Road, Borrowash, DE72 3HA
  • For students or university staff – University of Derby Surgery

Accessibility: Our Chaddesden and Borrowash sites are fully accessible, with step-free entry and disabled parking. Borrowash will have a new lift next spring to further improve access for all.

Pharmacy: You can continue to use your usual pharmacy for prescriptions.

Choice: If you would prefer, you may register with another local GP practice.

Exciting Improvements

We are expanding our Borrowash surgery to offer more staff and services in modern, compliant rooms, ensuring improved facilities and greater accessibility for all patients.

Support During the Transition

We understand that change can be challenging, and we are committed to supporting you. Our staff will be relocating to our other sites to maintain the same high level of service. We are investing in expanding our facilities to accommodate everyone comfortably.
